I've decided to install a Linux distro in a virtual machine for this purpose. If you follow his link: <a href="http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ubuntu" rel="nofollow">http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ubuntu</a> there's a table of components of the various Ubuntus further down the page.
