I have recently updated my Ubuntu operating system to Ubuntu 9.1. All previous settings have been carried forward except for my wireless connection. As far as I can see the wireless connection should restore automatically but when I am asked for my password the program freezes. Can anyone advise me what to do to restore the wireless connection? |

What kind of wireless card is it? (Broadcom cards have issues. You can hack a workaround by using ndiswrapper which often times will band-aid-fix an issue.) Is the wireless card internal, USB, or PCMCIA based? Did you check dmesg to see if the card was loaded? (For example: dmesg | grep wifi0 What does ipconfig -a show? I highly recommend the Atheros cards. Ron Hi Ron, Thank you for your reply. The card is a PCMCIA and the wireless modem is a TP-LINK TL-WN510G/TL-WN550G/TL-WN551G. However my laptop (IBM Thinkpad) could not detect the wireless connection so I reinstalled my original version of Ubuntu (version 9.04) and had no trouble connecting to the internet through the wireless connection. I have read that when Ubuntu versions are updated insufficient attention is given to retaining existing wireless connections hence the trouble with version 9.10 There are a number of posting on the internet about this. I had issues like that going from 9.04 to 9.10, so I can relate. Glad you got it going, but fyi as well, 9.04 reached End of Life recently. Have you tried Ubuntu 10.04.1LTS yet?
