For instance through the USB outlet straight into a coaxial cable?

Is that possible, mabe some kind of handshake between the machines is needed?

I have been thrugh the SOX manuel papers without finding a solution. Is there a hacker out there that can enlight me on this subject?

Kind Regards / Tommy
Tommy SkogsbergWed, 15 Sep 2010 14:45:49 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/1348/audio-usb-streamingaudiostreamingWhat software will multiplex sound inputs?http://linuxexchange.org/questions/1123/what-software-will-multiplex-sound-inputs
My computer has one of those crappy sound cards that only takes input from one source. I run fvwm2. I play music all the time. If I browse to a website that plays sounds, like YouTube, then no sound comes out from my browser, and then Firefox locks up tight. I have to kill the individual firefox processes and restart it.

KDE and (I think) Gnome have some lowlevel software that acts as a sound multiplexor. It sits above the crappy sound card and allows multiple sound inputs. What is this software? Can I use it without using KDE?

EDIT: At the low end, I am using ALSA for sound. At any given time, there are only two programs that are going to play sound - one is mplayer and one is Firefox. I think both these programs are trying to get sole ownership of /dev/dsp to play sound. Are there settings that will cause mplayer and Firefox to pass the sound to some underlying device that will multiplex the sound? Arts? Esound? PulseAudio?

Firefox is using mplayer as a plugin to play audio. Is there a way to configure the mplayer plugin so it doesn't go directly to /dev/dsp but to the multiplexor? And is there some configuration for mplayer on the command line that would pass the sound to the same thing?
codebunnyThu, 22 Jul 2010 15:58:10 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/1123/what-software-will-multiplex-sound-inputsaudiosoundMake mp3s louderhttp://linuxexchange.org/questions/618/make-mp3s-louder
I have my iPod loaded with music and generally listen to it through my car stereo. Inevitably, there are very loud songs; I have to turn the stereo down to 4 or 5. There are also very quiet songs; I have to turn the stereo to 20 or 25 to hear them properly.

Is there a way to increase the loudness (if that is the correct term) of the quiet mp3s so that I don't have to turn the stereo up to such a large volume?

Ideally it will be a non-destructive change and reversible if the results sound horrible. It should allow me to specify an mp3 with the target loudness and make the other mp3s as loud.

The mp3s are mixed and generally not from the same artist or album. It would also be nice to get a report of the changes before they are made so I can listen for my self to see what would happen.

Thanks, Troy
TroySun, 16 May 2010 11:48:15 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/618/make-mp3s-loudermp3audionormalizationustream audio not workinghttp://linuxexchange.org/questions/493/ustream-audio-not-working
running ubuntu 8.04 lts. thought that it had previously worked with ustream. skype works and also shoutcast for example. perhaps it only works with windows. i am not very handy with the command line if it come to that. any help will be appreciated thanks.
keithTue, 11 May 2010 23:31:57 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/493/ustream-audio-not-workingaudiostreamingvideo
