The CD drive will no longer mount or recognize any CD - music, DVD or blank. I have reloaded the codecs and libdvdcss libdvdread4 libdvdnav4. No luck.

If someone could help me with a step-by-step solution to this issue, I would appreciate it very much
ArdshielTue, 19 Aug 2014 09:00:16 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/3416/cd-drive-not-being-read-in-ubuntu-1404cdubuntuchange file name while burning to cd, dvd, bdhttp://linuxexchange.org/questions/3200/change-file-name-while-burning-to-cd-dvd-bd
Hi there.

I have a PC running MythBuntu. It's recording TV shows as mpg files. The filenames represent station and time of recording.

When I want to burn a recorded movie to DVD, I have to use this rather cryptic name, or copy the file to get it to have a meaningful name (or rename, burn, rename again).

Is there a way to burn a file to an optical drive giving it another name on the media than the file had on harddisk?
lukerMon, 16 Sep 2013 13:53:45 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/3200/change-file-name-while-burning-to-cd-dvd-bddvdcdcd burn stops half way through, simulation was ok.http://linuxexchange.org/questions/2774/cd-burn-stops-half-way-through-simulation-was-ok
When using k3b the burn stops about ⅓ of way in and gives an error "cdrecord has no permission to open the device".

Used k3bsetup, permissions are correct. Simulation works (twice). Process writes enough to CD to ruin the disc.

Brasero does the same thing but I did not see an error ( I used this tool first ).
daves dadSat, 07 Jan 2012 06:33:11 -0500http://linuxexchange.org/questions/2774/cd-burn-stops-half-way-through-simulation-was-okcdExternal optical drive won’t plug 'n play…sometimes.http://linuxexchange.org/questions/738/external-optical-drive-wont-plug-n-playsometimes
alright, I've looked a lot of different ways, but here goes. i have an external DVD burner that connects via USB and should be plug 'n play however sometimes when I connect it a message pops up requesting any CD or installation software it came with. It didn't come with any though. The confusing part is that if I wait a couple weeks and plug it in, then it works fine, but if I turn it off and back on the problem arises again. I've tried different computers, same problem. There's little to no customer support from the company, Ativa, and no drivers for the product. I'm hoping there's a registry trick for this. any help?
ConnorSun, 30 May 2010 22:44:21 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/738/external-optical-drive-wont-plug-n-playsometimesdvdcd[Solved] - CD-ROM looks like a Floppy after Ubuntu 10.04LTS + Updateshttp://linuxexchange.org/questions/482/solved-cd-rom-looks-like-a-floppy-after-ubuntu-1004lts-updates
Dell Latitude C-610 has a DVD-ROM taen out of a C-640 and put into the C-610.

I had Ubuntu 9.10 on it and everything works just fine.

I reformatted, installed Ubuntu 10.04, everything works just fine.

I updated from 10.04 to the latest kernel and other updates, rebooted, now the icon shows as floppy0 and it won't read CDs or DVDs because it thinks it's a floppy drive, not a DVD-CD ROM drive.

I rebooted the system with a Live CD of 9.04 and it sees it as a DVD-CD ROM. I rebooted the system with a Live CD of 10.04LTS and it sees it as a DVD-CD ROM.

Therefore........

I have verified that:

1) The drive physicall works. 2) It's not the BIOS or anything to do with that. 3) It worked with Ubuntu 9.04 and 10.04LTS, but not after the updates for 10.04LTS

Therefore based upon the above information, I have determined that the most likely cause is an update to Ubuntu 10.04LTS.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
