Thunderbird hangs the screen on sending, Ubuntu, Gnome, Compiz

Hello, Linux community!

Ubuntu 10.04, Gnome, Compiz with 4 virtual desktops.

I have Thunderbird installed from the binary repository. When I send messages, the screen hangs, I cannot click anything - it does not respond.

If I switch to another virtual desktop with a shortcut (Alt+Ctrl+Right arrow) and release the keys - everything gets back to normal. I can switch back and Thunderbird works ok. If I switch to another screen and then I switch back without releasing Ctrl+Alt, the system hangs completely. Nothing helps, I even can't switch desktops anymore. The only option I know is to reboot.

Did anyone have that kind of a problem? Where should I look? Should I report a but to Thunderbird or Compiz? All updates are installed

How to avoid ugly Compiz/Gnome shadow for Conky?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and installed Conky recently.

It works very well and I really like Conky. One problem exists nonetheless:
Compiz or Gnome create a drop shadow to all windows. I like this effect for all windows but not for Conky. Conky has now an ugly shadow that looks like it's not embedded into the desktop.

How can I disable this drop-shadow for Conky only?

Is it possible to define an exclusion for some applications?

Compiz/Gnome doesn't display XCursor

I've got Compiz working with Gnome on Arch nicely, except for one small thing - Compiz doesn't pick up on the cursor theme I've picked in Gnome-Appearance-Properties, instead defaulting to the ugly basic black cursor (the one with the stopwatch for busy).

Most of the GTK apps I use pick up on the main selection, but for the most part, I'm putting up with this ugly black one, and I want to fix it so Compiz uses the same cursor theme as Gnome is.

I have installed Compiz in jolicloud and I am getting artifacts. Has anyone else had this problem? I understand it is not installed by default possibly because of this reason in UNR/Jolicloud.
