numeric key pad on 104 key keyboard stopped working

my computer: dell latitude d820 laptop on a docking station with an external monitor and keyboard; os=Linux version 2.6.34.9-69.fc13.i686.PAE; keybd: 104 key with numeric key pad; my question/problem: for months i had to hit the combination of "windows logo key" and f8 on the laptop in order to get an image on the external monitor. this was an inconvenience since i had to stand up twice: once to turn on the laptop and a 2nd time to switch the image to my external monitor. then suddenly a few weeks ago i no longer had to hit the "windows logo key" & f8 keys - the image automatically showed on the external monitor. the down side is that the numeric key pad stopped working. everything else on the keyboard works normally. i don't know what i did to cause this. i'd like to get the numeric key pad back. please help!!!

Setup -> 1) Wireless Product with Access Point in managed mode say Product Name is Alpha. Alpha has an FTP Server installed in it.

2) Router with Access Point in Master Mode. 3) Net-book with windows 7 installed.

Product IPAddress Net-book 192.168.1.10 Router wi-fi adapter 192.168.1.1 Alpha (wireless Product)waln0 192.168.1.7

Router is connected to net-book via Ethernet cable. The LAN port of Router is connected to Net-book . There is no other connection of Internet or any other wired connection.

My Task is to download the files from alpha to Router and measure download speed of router.

Alpha product is successfully connected to Router and I can ping router from Alpha. At this point I tried to ssh into router from netbook with port 22 but it refused to make connection. How will I make ssh connection? 2) I can ping from my net-book to Alpha. I failed to understand how this work even though I have not connected net-book to router nor to alpha. 3) My main issue is to measure the download speed of router . At this point I can telnet into router but I don’t know username so I failed to login but when I tried to do ftp from net-book to Alpha it works . My question is downloading the files on net-book is same as downloading on router . I am more interested in download speed of router does not care about file downloaded or its contents. Could someone please throw light on it? Thanks ....

Hi Guys , I have a embedded system with linux fedora 12 os and has Bluetooth 3.0 . The embedded system is used to make BT connection. Everythng works fine

Now , I have been asked by management to give rough estimate of how much time it will take to upgrade it to BT4.0. Since we do not have BT 4.0 chip , I am not sure how to give them the estimate. In my embeded system. I have following packages installed , so I am wondering does these existing package wil support BT4.0, if not , could guys please point me to from where I will get drivers and how to install in fedora 12.

I have an assignment where i have to show a message when entering runlevel 3 and when exiting runlevel 3. I have created the script in init.d:

Httpd Fails After SSL Configuration [Solved]

I am not a linux expert, but I have some knowledge from my experience in creating a local server to be used for my development purposes.

I have followed the instructions on this page: ServerWorld: Configure SSL to create the SSL key and to configure the ssl.conf. However, after following all the instructions, I restarted my httpd service... but it fails.

I don't get any error message... so I wasn't sure how to look for the error or fix it.

I am doing this on my newly created virtual Fedora 15 (64 bit) server machine.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

VMware unable to build kernel module | Fedora 15

Hi guys I've installed vmware workstation on fedora 15. after that I yum'd a few stuffs like the GCC 4.6

now when I run the vmware it says it needs to compile and install some kernel modules when I click install it gives me this message:

Lost USB external drives after remote reboot on Fedora 14

I have run into a bizarre situation I haven't seen before. I am at a remote location today accessing my Fedora 14 box. I have an external USB hard drive connected to it. I was accessing fine all morning but I installed some updates and did a reboot. Afterwards, I no longer can see that drive (mount doesn't show it). Is it because I am ssh'ing in and not logging in to the box locally? I'm not sure when the USB drives would be detected and mounted.

Red Hat runs on an HS21 but does not yet support that new a kernel. Fedora's OS is not supported for the HS21 blades. I have been unable to find information regarding other linux distributions and the HS21.

I didn't try these myself; an IT person did. He says he tried 5 different LSI Logic SAS disk device drivers with Fedora and none of them worked. He also tried installing RHEL 5.5 and downloaded the latest 2.6.35.3 kernel source code, but could not get the boot process to the login prompt.

Is there a distribution that supports kernel 2.6.31+ easily on an HS21, or a known way to get there?

Does exist a mouse-keybord recorder ?

Problem with blank DVD+R on Fedora 13

I moved to Fedora 13 from Vista and I'm having issues with DVD+R burning.

On Vista I actually burned the Fedora ISO to install, and Fedora can read the DVD+R burned disc. But, now I insert a blank DVD+R but somehow it can not get the size of the disk correctly. The disk is recognized, and mounted as "Blank DVD+R Disc", but when I Right-Click on the icon on my desktop it says 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.

When I try Brasero, it tells me that there is not enough space to burn.

My DVD is a Toshiba DVDW/HD TS-L802A firm. HP21.

CD's work fine, any ideas?

Pam authentication against Active Directory Fedora

I'm trying to set up a file server and I'm having problems authenticating users in Active Directory on the new Linux file server..

Here's what's going on..

I had added the system to active directory.. Winbind trusts the system server that it's authenticating against and what it looks like is my problem is lying in my /etc/pam.d/login and my /etc/pam.d/system-auth file.. (I'm not editing the gdm file yet, because I want to wait until I can login first with Active Directory passwords before I work on getting GDM to work.)

It seems that every few months of use or so (haven't really been keeping track to tell ya the truth >_<) my Fedora installation becomes really unstable. I'll be in the middle of doing something and then all of a sudden it freezes and locks the entire system. And unfortunately I need to boot up my Mac OS X iatkos installation (mostly unused due to fail drivers :/) to get my HFS+ directory (100GB partition currently containing essentially all of my Media...) out of read-only mode after having to force shutdown the comp.

Now this has happened to me on every distribution of Linux I have used for an extended period of time (probably a month or two at most = extended :/) on this laptop (Fedora 10,11,12 ; Linux Mint 7 ; Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Seems to happen ONLY at shutdown for some strange reason @Ubuntu 10.04 LTS unlike the Fedora distros...))

My Fedora 12 installation has currently became so unstable that I have started using my Ubuntu installation to wait for the release of Fedora 13.

Just kinda wondering if anyone knows what causes this and if there is anyway to stop it from happening. I don't necessarily need a fix to this problem unless its somehow serious like my Hard Drive failing or something (Only would work if this was Windows as Linux is too smart to not notify me of that lulz... plus this comp is just less than a year old.) but its still a pain in the ass, esspecially considering that I currently dont have a bootloader (due to Windows or iatkos, idk...) and im using the Arch Linux live CD to boot... Plus everyone loves it when you lose all your progress right? heh...

Flash on Fedora plays twice as fast

No idea why, but after updating the flash plugin, all videos play twice as fast. No idea how to fix this, have tried reinstalling several times.

Bluetooth headset: A lot of buzzing and "slow" playback.

Hello, I used to use a Bluetooth headset when communicating with Skype, etc.

This works quite OK with my Sony-Ericsson HBH-600 headset, paired to my Computer running Fedoara 11.

The headset died on me, so I got myself a new one, a Bluetrek Tattoo.

Now, pairing went well and all, but when I activate it, I get a loud buzzing, and playback sounds garbled (you can't understand people talking, music is not recognizable as such, etc) sometimes it appears as if the playback was in slow motion.

Any Ideas why that is?

Also, which headsets would you recommend for PC use, rather than pairing with a cell phone?

Compaq and F12 - odd couple?

Hi,

OK, at the risk of a tornado, here is a question. I tried (several times with no success) to install F12 on a Compaq. A simple enough little thing, 1.5Gb memory, 250Gb hard drive, fast enough, hey, one of those ultra slimlines. Installing in graphical mode seems to be a problem, VESA is required. I can survive on VESA, no sweat. But after reboot, the machine cannot find the boor partition. I cannot reboot, the thing screams this:

Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

A Compaq issue? I'm at the fork in the road here: either change distro (dont wanna, I like RH/Fedora - but if I HAVE to...) or get a "white"/non-brand brand-new PC (for once, I only have second hands)

Ok, some intel/feedback would be nice...it is sunday afternoon, so, hey...

Access GRUB boot menu in Fedora?

I installed Fedora on a VM to test out something. Only, I managed to screw up and I forgot the root password, so I want to boot into single user mode to reset the root password. I can't seem to get to GRUB though. I heard that Fedora will hide the menu if you don't have a multi-boot setup or something

Is there a key I need to hold or something?
