However, only 1 core runs at 100percent. The rest at ~20. My software is for all 8cores. The developer says it's a Linux issue.

On reading it appears Ubuntu isn't ready for 8cores by default and I need to rebuild the kernel. This isn't a prob. However, before starting will someone pls tell me is it ok to find the current ker. source and re configure rather than worry about supporting all necessary drivers in a new file?

Or, is there a better Linux distro for parallel use? I used Gentoo for years so rebuilding is easy. But will someone advise me on this since I don't want any mistakes with Ubuntu?

Thank you. Fedora's OS is not supported for the HS21 blades. I have been unable to find information regarding other linux distributions and the HS21.

I didn't try these myself; an IT person did. My question is then how a Linux gets installed on raw hard disk which in not having gcc pre-installed. I also believe gcc can't be installed on raw hard disk (not sure and never tried). So, it is also not the case that Linux installs gcc first and then do the rest later.

Can any one explain how the thing works from lower level point of view.
AnonymousThu, 15 Apr 2010 04:37:12 -0400http://linuxexchange.org/questions/59/how-linux-gets-installedlinuxkernellivecdlfsgcc
