How mmpstrucdata and mmrfc5424addhmac works?

I am trying to log messages with structured data . But it is showing null value for structured data. I am working with rsyslog 8.9.0.Can someone exlain me how these two modules mmpstrucdata and mmrfc5424addhmac will be effected?

Unable to get structured data in logged messages even after adding mmpstrucdata and mmrfc5424addhmac?(RFC5424)

Template:

getting message format as below: <142> 2015-01-29T06:43:53.081641-05:00 localhost login[2116]: login 2116 - [2116 : 2116 INFO]SERIAL Login from IP:127.0.0.1 user:admin -

configuration file --rsyslog.conf:

$ModLoad imuxsock # provides support for local system logging $ModLoad imklog # provides kernel logging support (previously done by rklogd) $ModLoad mmpstrucdata $ModLoad mmrfc5424addhmac

GLOBAL DIRECTIVES

$ActionFileDefaultTemplate RSYSLOG_DebugFormat . /var/log/debugfmt.log;RSYSLOG_DebugFormat

After loading mmpstrucdata and mmrfc5424addhmac i am getting structured data null.

An Open Letter To All Posters Of Questions

Since I (or others) have taken the time to respond your question, it'd be nice if you would at least read what was written as the response and respond in kind. I think that many people post, wait a very short time, and if they don't get an immediate response, they move on never to return.

This wastes everyone's time.

It wasted the Original Poster's (OP) time since they wrote the original post asking for help, but since they never bothered to read the replies posted in kind, let alone respond to them, what was the point of posting in the first place?

For those who replied to the Original Poster (OP), their time was wasted because there is no discussion. In many cases, I've asked not only for the OP to please provided possible answers on what little information I've been given, but I've also asked for clarification of the question, only to never get a response from the OP at all.

When this happens enough, people will not respond simply stop responding because they don't want to waste their time responding to posts that the OP won't read or care to respond to, and when that happens, this place is pretty much dead. You may as well walk out at 3am on your rooftop and shout "HEY!! I HAVE A LINUX PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME???" ...and wait for a response because whether you shout for an answer from your rooftop at 3am or post your question on on this forum, the results will be the same.

Nada. Nothing. Zip. A big fat ZERO.

So, if you aren't going to READ what people respond, AND post acknowledgement of it, I beg you to PLEASE not post in the first place.

PS: I don't mean to be crass or rude, only to call it like it is without sugarcoating it.

UPDATE: 12-19-2011 - Just an edit to update this with a comment..... Did anyone else notice that prior to me making this update on 12-19-2011, there's been no other posts or updates at all in the last 10 days?

Seriously.... do you think any active message board goes TEN DAYS without a single new post on it?

This gives credence to what I said above about this place being dead.

Am working on sending real time video data from an embedded Linux device on to a usb device. Am using the c language. Currently, I have a code that can detect the usb, my challenge is how to send the video data from the camera to the usb device.

Any suggestions?

In the question list, you cannot see if a question has got accepted answers. It's not highlighted and it makes answering more difficult.

It would be a great help to highlight the answers.

This CSS snipplet would be a good catch, imho:

JavaScript links don't work, so you need to create the bookmarklet for yourself by copy & paste.

Suggestion: Link in email for weekly activity

The weekly activity email gives you a list of activiy on your questions and answers but doesn't actually link back to any of the questions/answers.

You have to search again to find each question (via your profile) which increases number of clicks to get to the wanted information.

And I presume (can't test currently as I've not been a long enough time user) that if you got a reply on a really old question, it could take quite a bit of time of processing through old questions before one find the one which was replied to.

Is this something to be considered?

I am prohibited from creating a tag because I am a new user. How many badges or how long must I be on the forum to create a tag?

After rejecting the new tag the system refused to accept my post without a tag - and every tag was rejected because I was new. So I canceled. My reputation is about to go down in flames.

Hello,

I show up twice under LinuxExchange Users, once as DBA Registered, once as DBA UNregistered. I have votes for each identity. How do I combine myself into one identity with one set of votes?

(I started appearing with two unregistered but identical identities a few days ago. I registered one hoping to make the other go away. It didn't work.)

How do I avoid this in the future? I'm starting to feel schizoid!

Clearly LinuxExchange is related to StackOverflow, as they use the same interface. Some questions:

Are they run by the same people?
Will I be able to copy over my profile from the other SO sites?
If they aren't related, is the code that runs the site available for anyone to set up a site that functions the same way on a different topic?

Hello!

I'd like to know what kind of questions could be asked around here and in what form. What I mean exactly, can I post a guides/howtos for resolving known problems that linux users may experience, frequently asked questions? Like "How to configure ssh with keys" or something like that...

BTW I like this idea of LE(as we probably will soon call LinuxExchange), it's nice! Thanks, Jeremy :)
