Sar command to monitor network traffic on eth0 along with CPU utilization for 48 hours

I am trying to understand the network activity from a few servers along with CPU utilization for 48 hours only. I am new to sar and maybe i am not writing the syntax correctly.

sar %util -n ALL eth0 -e[48:00:00] -f /tmp/piyush

Logging to filesystem or database

So I'm looking for best practices on logging. IO, resource consumption, etc.

Which is the better way to go from a performance perspective. Log to database, or filesystem.

Some of the applications can log straight to the database, apache being one. Some would have to be funneled from the syslog aggregation system to the database.

So on the applications that can go directly to the database should I, or should I just keep the standard, and let the aggregate do the work of putting into the database.

[Debian Base] Extra ram: What can I symlink to /dev/shm to improve system performance?

I am running mint 8 on a first gen netbook. I have already installed the max 2GB ram. Mint uses 200MB to 500MB on average use on my machine. I know that /dev/shm is a dynamic 'ram drive'. What can I symlink to improve performance? I am asking about this only and not about other performance improvements. Thank you very much.
