Hi,

I have always preferred Linux over Windows, but gave myself the chance to really get into it this past week. Normally, I ran Windows XP in VMware to use Windows apps necessary for class. I don't have classes anymore, so I really gave Windows the royal boot. It has been sent off to that big blackhole in the sky. Anyway, I do have to use Internet Explorer to test browser compatibility for web sites I make, especially since IE usually craps on my code here and there where other browsers do not. I have never had to use Wine in the past, but I am discovering it just doesn't seem to work in Ubuntu. I know it is just something I need more information about. Any help getting it going would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Winetricks is what you need. It allows you to install multiple versions of IE with just a few commands. Of course, you need a working wine to run IE.

If you have problems with wine itself, please try to specify more exactly what is wrong.

Of course, you can always take a look at the Wine FAQs.

Okay, I will track out the FAQ. It will install, but will simply do nothing when I click on it in the menu. I tried uninstall and install again a few times. I think I ticked it off when I foolishly followed some instructions on eHow that claimed to allow iTunes to run. That little incident made the picture on my screen come apart.

Wow, those links really helped. I have it configured correctly now. I wish I could get some of these uninstalled apps off my menu though, especially iTunes. I didn't think anything could crash Linux until I messed with that. Thanks a bunches!

I'm glad I could help. If you feel that I have answered your question, mark the tick to the left. Furthermore, a renaming of your question to "How to install Internet Explorer with Wine" might help further users find the answer they seek.
