There seems to be a problem with your search engine. Whether I ask about DVD-RAM or "DVD-RAM" all the hits seem to refer to volatile memory issues. I'd suspect that Linux developers haven't heard or have fogotten about DVD-RAM, except that SLAX 6.1.2 can read and write to it. Puppy Linux, OTOH, can't even mount it. I'm especially interested in finding a low-resource distro, such as the two above, preferably with a current kernel, that can handle this format, and especially using UDF format. |
Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try to follow up on it further a bit later. For now, though, I just had a quick look for system requirements at the #!Crunchbag Forums, and the posts were not encouraging. I'm used to running with Puppy Linux or SLAX fully in RAM in well under 500MB, and my perception is that that would be impossible with #!Crunchbag. The fact that users are flailing about on this topic in the absence of essential documentation is also unappealing. The indication of DVD-RAM capability on a system doesn't mean much per se, since most "super-multi" burners have supported DVD-RAM for the past three or four years at least. answered 06 May '10, 18:55 otropogo 1 |
I don't have a personal experience for you, but I did have a look in the #!Crunchbang forums and a few of my fellow users have listed their machine specs that include DVD-RAM functionality. Plus #!Crunchbang is very lightweight distro.
So I might suggest logging into the forums and asking there. #!Crunchbang Forums Good luck. answered 05 May '10, 05:11 charl |
