Hi, I have an emachines desktop computer. Windows xp became corrupted and lost a file so I couldn't boot windows. I installed ubuntu via usb stick to replace xp. Ubuntu loads, and will work, but really slow, slow, slow. I think the emachines desktop has sufficient ram and memory to run ubuntu, but it is too slow to be of use. I would like to replace ubuntu with puppy linux, but I can't get puppy installed. I tried using a usb stick since the cd/dvd drive doesn't work. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, John

Probably is working now but in your case but in the case of Ubuntu's slowness when the problem persist then Unity DE could be the reason because it requires a robust HW configuration. I would recommend going to a super-light distro as Puppy as last resort, first try Xubuntu or Lubuntu.
