Got a new HD for my aging server. Is a WD500AAKS. This rig has no SATA, so I connected through a VIA card that was working ok with a WD 80G. Now I get these messages. May 6 18:57:30 asuracenturix kernel: [114177.444092] ata3: hard resetting link May 6 18:57:30 asuracenturix kernel: [114177.780064] ata3: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) May 6 18:57:30 asuracenturix kernel: [114177.807356] ata3.00: configured for UDMA/33 May 6 18:57:30 asuracenturix kernel: [114177.807395] ata3: EH complete Do you think is a hardware problem? Should I return the drive? This means without the server until the shop graciously checks the drive and decide it is MY problem? asked 06 May '10, 23:11 LiquidPaper |
It may be that it's underpowered. answered 07 May '10, 00:50 Ben Kibbey Thanks. I read that somewhere and took out another hard-drive as to reduce the consumption, but nothing changed.

Is this set as you primary disk, is the controller the primary target set in your system BIOS? answered 08 May '10, 01:51 1jnike No, the system boots from PATA (and has a SONY CD only) in the slave channel.

Since you didn't post dmesg or /var/log/messages we can only guess. Do you have a 3.0 Gbps drive but only a 1.5 Gbps controller on your mobo? If so you'll get that message, but the kernel should load the proper driver for the controller and the drive should be recognized and mountable. answered 09 Jan '13, 13:30 mingdao |
