I was introduced to computing through Bell Labs early digital switches which were UNIX based, so I've always felt comfortable in that type of environment. With that as background, this is my situation: I have an old virus-ridden PC running Windows XP. I would like to erase it completely and install some form of LINUX. I have no interest in learning commands etc., I just want a user friendly, end user terminal to use for browsing the web, word processing, printing, burning CDs and perhaps some form of picture capture software. Very simple. I would be sharing a router with a Windows7 equipped PC. Best suggestions? |

Having installed Puppy Linux on several pre-2000 machines with low ram, I highly recommend you look at burning a CD and trying ver 5.7.1... http://www.puppylinux.com/about.htm It's a no brainer as far as I am concerned: low resource usage, fun to use AND covers all your required functions. |

Have a look at: Min RAM: 512 MB (Install with Alternate CD: 64 MB) or Min RAM: 384-800 MB (depending on your selected options) And this comparison |
