All the games in the Humble Indie Bundle have Linux versions, and are critically acclaimed games: |

Neverwinter Nights can be a time sink especially with all the community mods it has. I also play a few FOSS games like Summoning Wars, Kwest Kingdom and Hedgewars. |

Pretty much anything made by ID Software runs on Linux, from the ancient Wolfenstein 3D to Quake 4 and anything in between. Also, check http://happypenguin.org/ |

I like PySolFC - not exactly a gamer's game, but a very cross-platform nice suite of Solitaire games. Others of my old favourites include Frozen Bubble, Hex-a-Hop and SDL Vexed. I've recently started playing many of the online JavaScript puzzle games at http://brainbashers.com/ and elsewhere, and they work fine in Linux. |

Not sure this is the kind of game you had in mind, but Nethack is great! You can even play it over SSH to your home machine ;-) Really nice. It helps me to learn to type without looking the keyboard!
