my computer: dell latitude d820 laptop on a docking station with an external monitor and keyboard; os=Linux version 2.6.34.9-69.fc13.i686.PAE; keybd: 104 key with numeric key pad; my question/problem: for months i had to hit the combination of "windows logo key" and f8 on the laptop in order to get an image on the external monitor. this was an inconvenience since i had to stand up twice: once to turn on the laptop and a 2nd time to switch the image to my external monitor. then suddenly a few weeks ago i no longer had to hit the "windows logo key" & f8 keys - the image automatically showed on the external monitor. the down side is that the numeric key pad stopped working. everything else on the keyboard works normally. i don't know what i did to cause this. i'd like to get the numeric key pad back. please help!!!

maybe is the keyboard drivers problem, you can reinstall the drivers again. download Dell Latitude D820 Drivers and you can find the keyboard drivers.

I have a few questions:

Have you tried disconnecting everything (laptop from docking station, keyboard from docking station) and reconnecting, and then, of course, rebooting?

Have you tried another keyboard that you know works with another computer?

Have you tried your keyboard on another computer?

To get your display working, did you hit the <windows key=""> + <f8> on the laptop or the keyboard attached to the docking station?
